Meet & Greet with Omayra Alvarado, Instituto de Visión, Bogota

Please join us for a talk and informal get together with Omayra Alvarado, director of Instituto de Visión from Bogota, Colombia in the context of the exhibition ‘Cardena Warming Up’ in Rozenstraat / a rose is a rose is a rose in Amsterdam.

Alvarado will elaborate on Instituto de Visión’s experimental presentation and research programme ‘Visionaries’, which hosts the work of Colombian born dutch artist Michel Cardena/Miguel-Angel Cardénas. Shortly before his death in 2015 the gallery organized a retrospective show which sparked a chain reaction towards the international rediscovery of the artist’s work.

It will be interesting to hear how Cardena’s work is received in the Colombian art context.

Instituto de Visión. Instituto de Visión is a space for research, experimentation and exchange between local and international artists, markets, and cultural agents.

Our program is focused on conceptual practices that propose micro-revolutions, original perspectives and personal ecosystems inserted into a specific context.

The poetics that inspire us originate in interchange, tropicality, decoding, cotidianity, archives and historic revision.

Through the program Visionarios, Instituto de Visión aims at revisiting the history of Colombian art to give a deserved position to artists who remained, despite their challenging and committed posture, alienated from the academic/official recount of our Art History.
